John Seymour

John was born in Hampshire and brought up in rural South Wales, where his father worked as a manager in the Telecomms industry and then as a Management Consultant. John went from school to train in Medicine in Bristol, with placements across a spread of hospitals in the South West from Penzance to Bath! He came to faith in Christ around the same time he came out, in his second year at Medical School. A corresponding sense of vocation led him to leave medicine after practicing for 3 years. John was then part of the group which pioneered St Paul's Cathedral's lay community, and through that time discerned a call to train to be a priest in the Church of England.

Whilst training at Westcott House, John went on exchange with the Roman Catholic Church, studying at the Venerable English College in Rome. This led to him being invited to contribute to formal ecumenical dialogue between the Church of England and the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales. John's curacy was served in the East End, as part of a team ministry that took in both One Canada Square, Canary Wharf and some of parts of the country with the highest deprivation and diversity indices (and most interesting people!) From parish ministry John moved to a post in school chaplaincy. As part of the senior management team, John helped the Twyford Academies Trust to move over 8 years from a being a single school with a very selective admissions policy, to embrace an open admissions policy in an ethnically and religiously diverse area as part of its confident Christian identity. With these foundations in place, the Trust continues to grow.

John's academic interests are broad: he boasts degrees in Biochemistry, Philosophy and in Theology! However, his central concern has always been how the gospel finds authentic, engaged and transforming expression today. It was therefore a natural step in September 2017 to move to become tutor in Mission and Contextual Theology at St Augustine's College of theology, serving primarily the Dioceses of Canterbury, Chichester, Rochester and Southwark in theological education.

John became a board member in November 2016 and provided strategy for the team that oversaw the merger of Changing Attitude and LGCM. John has had a key role in developing the vision, brand and strategy for OneBodyOneFaith, bringing a mixture of management experience, ecumenical insight and theological expertise to this task.

John lives in London. In his spare time you will find him running, swimming or in the gym, in an art gallery or watching contemporary dance, or worshipping at Southwark Cathedral, but he is never far from coffee, beer, gin, or a glass of dry white wine.
