Consultation on sex education: speak up for inclusion
The UK government in in the middle of process of consultation on the new sex and relationships education curriculum. OneBodyOneFaith is urging its members and supporters to get involved in this once-in-a-generation opportunity to make sure young people get the information they need to form happy, healthy relationships. The current guidance leaves LGBT relationship education as optional - so if schools don't want to offer it, they don't have to. We think this lets down all young people, not just those who are LGBT.
One of the insights to emerge from the earlier curriculum consultations is the perceived conflict between teaching about relationships and religions belief. But those of us who hold to OneBodyOneFaith's Statement of Conviction, reflecting committed, consensual, intimate same-sex relationships in the light of the Gospel, see no such confict. We need to take this opportunity to affirm that conviction.
You can read the full guidance from the government here, and a useful article about the consultation, and why it matters, here.
The Consultation closes on Wednesday 7 November, but it's not too late to make a submission, using this link here. It will take less than five minutes, but will make a real difference for young people - and we can guarantee nobody will ask you to stand in front of a classroom of 30 eager teenagers and put a condom on a banana! All in all not a bad deal - what are you waiting for?
