Transfaith: a liturgy for a renaming ceremony

Transfaith: a liturgy for a renaming ceremony

As the Bishops of the Church of England once again fail to commend liturgies for the life moments that matter to LGBT people - most recently for trans people - our message has been consistent - we'll work with you, but we won't wait for you.  Our communities are compassionate, creative and resourceful.  We have much wisdom to share on our experience of using words and silence to reflect and illuminate those moment in our lives when we move closest to God and to one another.

So - since our leadership seems unable to include us in their deliberations about us - we're pleased and proud to be able to share a liturgy of renaming which is shortly to appear in the new book Transfaith: A Transgender Pastoral Resource, published by Darton Longman and Todd.  The book, edited by Tina Beardsley and Chris Dowd, will include a variety of liturgies including:

  • A Liturgy of Communion
  • Preparation for Surgery
  • Acknowledging Loss
  • Affirmation of Marriage Vows
  • Release from Wedding Vows
  • Renaming Ceremony
  • Trans Day of Remembrance

We warmly commend the book to you;  you can order copies using the link here, and download the Renaming Ceremony liturgy here.
