LGBT+ History Month Resources
LGBT+ History Month - founded in 2004 by Schools OUT - is celebrated every February across the UK. The theme for 2023’s LGBT History Month is 'Behind the Lens' - celebrating LGBT+ peoples’ contribution to cinema and film from behind the lens. It’s also a chance to look ‘Behind the Lens’ and listen to LGBT+ peoples’ lived experiences, at a time when LGBT+ lives are often in the media. Here are some links and resources to help you make the most of the month!
Prayer and liturgy
Over the years, many churches and other faith groups have sent messages or produced resources around LGBT+ History Month - look out for more this year. Here are some highlights from the last few years:
-
The Methodist Church’s Dignity and Worth group produced this beautiful inclusive liturgy based on the lives and friendship of St Brigid and Darlughdach
-
Revd Canon Sarah Jones’ wrote a prayer on behalf of the Church in Wales Diocese of Llandaff - there’s a video of it here
-
St Bride’s, Liverpool shared their liturgy for LGBT+ History Month, which was adapted from ‘Service of Communion: A Ritual with Salt’ by Carol Wise, Executive Director of the Brethren Mennonite Council for LGBT+ Interests which can be found here.
