Advent Reflections Archive 2019–2024

Here we are at Advent again! We say this every year, but it does have a way of creeping up on us. Perhaps, like many, you are approaching Advent breathless and weary, or perhaps you are coming to it with a clearer mind and heart; either way, the waiting that Advent invites is rarely the waiting our lives allow. We come to it carrying the weight and the wonder of the year just gone: grief that still feels tender, joy that still surprises us, and all the ordinary days in between.

For many of us, Advent becomes a space to acknowledge both the shadows and the small, stubborn lights that continue to glow. As LGBT+ Christians and allies, we know the tension between lament and hope, between weariness and courage. And yet, each year, we return to this season not to pretend ignorance of what comes next, but to prepare ourselves again, in the fullness of our lives and bodies, for the One who comes among us.

This year, instead of producing something new, we’re offering something we’re proud of: five years of Advent reflections, gathered here in one place. They speak of embodiment, belonging, joy and, the quiet work of waiting with intention.

Think of this archive as an open invitation:
to take what is helpful,
to leave what isn’t yours to carry,
and to approach Advent with the honesty and freedom it deserves.

How to use this archive:

  • Explore the reflections year by year (2019–2024). Each year contains our weekly Advent reflections as they were originally published.
  • Use them privately, in small groups, or woven into worship.
  • Read slowly. Revisit lines. Let the repetition shape you.
  • Adapt what you need. We only ask that OneBodyOneFaith is credited when material is shared or printed.

As we move towards our 50th anniversary next year, it feels right to pause and honour the voices and prayers that have formed us; thank you for walking these Advent paths with us.

Peace be with you this Advent and beyond.
